Livre: "Studies by the Office of Ryue Nishizawa"
Contemporary Architect's Concept Series 4
INAX Publishing
The book presents a selection of sketches, CAD drawings, models and photos of the different version tested for several projects. It's interesting to see that the hand still occupies a great place in the conceptual design phase.
When talking about the Moriyama House, Ryue says:
We created a study model, which was large enough to allow us to see the interior. As a start I made large opening facing the roads and gardens in the volumes. I imagine that utilizing the outdoor space as part of the residences could creat an open and enjoyable feeling for the people inside. To examine the various spaces, I put a compact camera into the model and took pictures to study it in depth. I saw light places, dark places, places where the volume towers over, and places where I could view the whole interior of a certain space from outside. Since the dwellings where separated, the residents in each room might experience the overall image of the site. Each place and each room were unique and I felt that every structure was both singular and part of the whole
